Traffic Efficiency Working Group: Digitising Traffic Circulation Plans
18 March 2025 - 16:00-17:00 - Online
The European Commission regulates data provision for real-time traffic services under the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Directive and the Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI) Delegated Act. The RTTI regulation requires that existing Traffic Circulation Plans (TCPs) in machine-readable format be made digitally accessible via National Access Points (NAPs), established by each Member State. By 2028, the ITS Directive will also require all newly developed TCPs to be digital and machine-readable, with future deadlines for digitising older TCPs to ensure consistency across the EU.
In October 2024, POLIS, CROW, and local road authorities across Europe published a position paper advocating for the digitisation of TCPs.
This webinar will present the paper’s key findings and highlight the role of digital TCPs in improving communication between road authorities and service providers. Digital TCPs help optimise traffic flows, reduce urban disruptions, and support sustainable travel choices. Additionally, the webinar will provide insights into the recent revision of the ITS Directive.
Agenda:
- Introduction by Laura Babio, Head of POLIS Traffic Efficiency Working Group
- ITS directive key principles by Tiffany Vlemmings, European Commission / Ministry of Transport and Water Management (Netherlands)
- Traffic Circulation plans step-by-step approach by Mikael Ivari, City of Gothenburg; Gerard van Dijck, CROW; and Luuk Misdom, City of Helmond.
