ERTRAC Workshop

The Urban Mobility Workshop by the Urban Mobility Working Group of ERTRAC will open the dialogue on innovation, research and solutions for local and regional authorities to meet the needs of the city and individual transport users in a sustainable way.

Sustainable urban mobility action should generate multiple benefits to tackle both current and future challenges linked to transport. Transport needs to be decarbonized, and dramatic improvements are required in the field of air quality, congestion, quality of life, traffic safety and public health.

At the same time, the transport sector seems to be going through a paradigm shift, where many innovative, sometimes disruptive, mobility solutions and technologies are entering cities at a very fast pace. They hold the potential to help transform mobility in a sustainable and inclusive way, provided they are introduced under the right framework conditions and steered towards reaching sustainable mobility policy goals.

What solutions do local and regional authorities need, to meet the needs of the city as well as of the individual transport user in a sustainable way? Which innovations will the research community and industry be able to offer and how can cities both help these innovations to flourish and use them for their own benefit? Which further research is needed in the years to come to address the challenges upon and ahead of us?

These are just some of the questions that will be discussed at this Urban Mobility Workshop, organized by the Urban Mobility Working Group of ERTRAC, the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council.

The workshop will bring the research and industry community together with practitioners from cities in need for new transport solutions. Special attention will be paid to the start-up community which has emerged as an important player in introducing new and sometimes disruptive mobility services in cities. Through a fruitful dialogue, the aim is to identify which research and innovation actions are required in the coming years to further shape the urban mobility ecosystem of tomorrow.

This workshop is organized by ERTRAC in the framework of the FUTURE-RADAR project.
