Safety means More: Exploring the Links
Meeting of the WG for Safety & Security
13 December - 10.00-12.30 (CET, Brussels Time) - Online
Road Safety stands for saving lives and preventing serious injuries in traffic. That is (or, at least, should be!) a good-enough reason to channel investment and support the tough but necessary decisions. There is, however, much more to consider – and explore.
Safety is a necessary condition for Urban Mobility to become sustainable – how can we get more people to walk and cycle if that feels dangerous? Safety must also be a concern for decarbonisation investments – so we don’t get less CO2 for the same number of deaths.
And Safety opens the door to many improvements in urban life and human development. How, you ask? We’ll share part of the answer – what’s your part?
Come share your questions, experience and suggestions.
This will be an interactive meeting – together, we’ll explore two critical links. On each topic we’ll start with a kick-off presentation, and then open the discussion to all members.
AGENDA
10h00 Welcome & Introductions
Suzanne Andersson, Working Group Chair (City of Gothenburg)
10h10 Road Safety & Electromobility
Pedro Homem de Gouveia, Coordinator for Safety & Security, POLIS
Decarbonization of Urban Mobility is becoming a political priority for public
authorities all over the world. As a tool to reach that goal, Electromobility is
advancing fast, with public incentives and market dynamics growing the
number of vehicles and expanding charging infrastructure. But reducing
vehicle emissions isn’t enough. Urban Mobility must also become safe. What
are the challenges posed by Electromobility to Road Safety?
10h20 Focused & Structured Discussion
10h50 Short Break
11h00 Traffic Safety as Part of Sustainability
Suzanne Andersson, Working Group Chair (City of Gothenburg)
The Recommendations of the Expert Group to the Stockholm Global
Conference pointed out that Road Safety is indispensable for the pursuit of
several sustainable development goals, including sustainable mobility, public
health, and much more. Exploring these links will raise the profile of Road
Safety in the policy domain, and help extend the circle of committed
stakeholders. What can cities and regions do?
11h20 Focused & Structured Discussion
11h50 Wrap up and a Warm Thank You to a Great Chair
12h00 End of Session
